Victorian Curriculum
The year level I have chosen to focus on is levels 5 and 6 of the Victorian Curriculum. At this stage according to the Victorian Curriculum students should be ‘exploring the interconnections between people and environments, Students examine how environmental characteristics such as climate and landforms influence the human characteristics of places, and how human actions influence the environmental characteristics of places. … They learn that some climates produce hazards such as bushfires and floods that threaten the safety of places and gain an understanding of the application of the principles of prevention, mitigation and preparedness as ways of reducing the effects of these hazards.’[VCAA], n.d.)

Cross Curriculum Priorities and General Capabilities Link
Intercultural Capabilities :
‘become responsible local, national and global citizens, living and working together in an interconnected world.’
(VCAA], n.d.)
Civics and Citizenship:
Through the study of civics and citizenship, students can develop skills of inquiry, values and dispositions that enable them to be active and informed citizens; to question, understand and contribute to the world in which they live. The curriculum also offers opportunities for students to develop a wide range of general skills and capabilities, including an appreciation of diverse perspectives, empathy, collaboration, negotiation, self-awareness and intercultural understanding.
